John Green and David Levithan:"Will Grayson, Will Grayson" ( Elodie )
John Green and David Levithan :
Will Grayson, Will Grayson
Will Grayson, Will Grayson by John Green , famous for his book The fault in our stars, and David Leviathan was published on the 6th April 2010. Will Grayson, Will Grayson also received the Stonewall Book Award . The book tells us the story of two teenagers, with the same name, but two very different lives. Both of the boys were living their own life, not knowing each other until the day they ran into each other. They both have difficult love lives, one dating a guy he only saw online, and the other not knowing how he feels about a girl. Will this meeting change something in their love life and friendship ?
What I really like about this book is that the LGBTG+ community is represented as well as mental issues. I think that representing LGBTQ+ community is really good to inform people about it and to educated them. I also think that the mental awareness in this book is really good because, in my opinion, it’s not talked about enough. One of the Will Grayson, who is one of the main characters, being gay himself and having depression which I find is really good for the representation.
I also enjoyed the diversity of the characters. Every character is different and unique in their own way. We can see this really well with the two Will Grayson. They might have the same name but they are the total opposite. Tiny Cooper might be the most unique one. He is very different from everyone else. Tiny does things that any other person would be embarrassed to do and this is what I really like about him. Tiny is also very opened about being gay which, I think, is really good.
However, some parts of the books were quite long to read because at some moments there was a lot of description. I don’t really like when there is too much description but if you are someone that enjoys when something is described for a long time, this might not bother you.
I would recommend Will Grayson, Will Grayson to anyone who likes to read teenage love stories. It is, as I said earlier, an amazing book for mental awareness and LGBTQ+ representation that I think are really important.
